  Apparently Highlands Smokehouse changed hands and is now Highlands BBQ Co, or so we were told by our hostess/waitress/bartender. We were seated at a table with brown paper table covering that going by the grease stains had not been changed since the previous guests. They have a full liquor bar, but we were told that the regular bartender was on vacation, so two waitresses were trying to do everything. They weren't exactly up on their mixology. I wouldn't be surprised if they were cooking as well. Our service was super slow because of the lack of wait staff, which cannot be blamed on our waitress. When our food finally arrived, our onion rings were stone cold. I was given coleslaw instead of collards, which had to be sent back and I had to wait for the correct food item. My sister in law said that the coleslaw was nothing to write home about. She also found a bone in her pulled chicken. About the only positive thing I can say about our experience is that the brisket and baby back ribs were cooked to perfection, and the available sauces were great! The collards were cooked just like I like them. The only reason we chose this restaurant was because of the prices on the menu. I guess you get what you pay for.

  Never have I been treated with such disrespect in a restaurant in my life. We arrived New Year's Eve morning at 11:00am to a empty restaurant (opens at 11) excited to enjoy the good food and good football. There are at least 4 tvs all playing espn. We were not greeted at the door so we waited a few mins until someone came out later to tell us to take a seat. At this point I asked if he would mind to change 1 of the 4 tvs to the other bowl game. He responded with a quick "I doubt it" expressing that he doesn't watch tv and does not understand why he has tvs here (we are assuming he is the owner by this statement). He walked away and my wife and I thought that was rude of him but we brushed it off thinking maybe he was trying to be funny. A few mins later he returned to the table and proceeded to tell us that we had made up his mind that he would get rid of the TVs in 2017. He said people should come here to eat and not to watch TV. I asked him if it bothered him that I had asked him to change the channel. He said yes. There was a long pause beteeen the 3 of us. Tension was there. He continued his rant about TVs. And I said we are leaving and will not support a local restaurant that treats their customers this way. We have no idea if the food is good. But this establishment is a bar and has TVs in every room. Not to mention its New Years Eve and the day will be full of bowl games.
